Indian Sojourn runs one way from Mumbai to Delhi, travelling north through Gujarat into the heart of Rajasthan. Day 1MumbaiOn board
Board the Deccan Odyssey at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and set off overnight for Vadodara.
Day 2Vadodara – ChampanerOn board
After breakfast, drive to Champaner to explore Pavagadh Archaeological Park. Lunch is back on board, followed by the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum and tea and snacks at the magnificent Laxmi Vilas Palace.

Day 3UdaipurOn board
Tour Udaipur's City Palace and cruise on Lake Pichola. After lunch at a city hotel, take a walking tour through the old city and its bustling, colourful bazaar.

Day 4JodhpurOn board
Visit the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, then return to the train for lunch. In the afternoon, ride a tuk-tuk to the Clock Tower for a glimpse of everyday life in the Blue City.

A station welcome opens your day in the Pink City. Visit Amber Fort, enjoy lunch at a city hotel, then tour the City Palace and drive past the Hawa Mahal.

From Tundla, drive into Agra for the Taj Mahal. After lunch at a city hotel, see Agra Fort and watch craftsmen demonstrate pietra dura, the marble inlay used in Mughal buildings.

Day 7Sawai Madhopur – RanthamboreOn board
Spend the morning at leisure on board, then head out on an afternoon safari in Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. Return to the train for drinks and dinner as it heads for Delhi.

Questions about this journey
Is Indian Sojourn the reverse of Indian Odyssey?
Broadly, yes, but not exactly. Indian Sojourn runs Mumbai to Delhi and includes Jodhpur, while Indian Odyssey runs Delhi to Mumbai and visits the Ellora Caves instead.
What will I see in Jodhpur?
Day four brings a visit to Mehrangarh Fort, lunch back on board, and an afternoon tuk-tuk ride to the Clock Tower to see the old city's daily life.
When is the tiger safari?
The Ranthambore safari is on the afternoon of day seven, after a relaxed morning on the train. You return on board for drinks and dinner.
Does the journey include the Taj Mahal?
Yes. On day six you leave the train at Tundla and drive into Agra for the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and a marble inlay demonstration.
Where does the journey begin?
You board at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai on day one, and the train reaches Delhi on day eight.
