Overview
Created with the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, specialists in single-cask single malts, this is the Royal Scotsman's whisky journey. Whisky writer Charles MacLean leads a nosing on the first evening, followed by tutored tastings at Glenmorangie, Tomatin and Tullibardine, a single-cask session on board and a morning of outdoor pursuits at Rothiemurchus.

Day 1Edinburgh → the north
Meet your whisky ambassador at the Balmoral Hotel for a welcome dram, then board the Royal Scotsman and cross the Forth Railway Bridge. After afternoon tea, whisky expert Charles MacLean leads an exclusive nosing and tasting, sharing the history and heritage of Scotch.

Day 2Tain → Kyle of LochalshKyle of Lochalsh
After breakfast, visit Glenmorangie House and Distillery in Tain to see traditional production, followed by a tutored tasting and a light lunch. Back on the train, the line climbs past Loch Luichart, the Torridon mountains and Luib Summit to Strathcarron, then follows Loch Carron to Plockton and Kyle of Lochalsh. The evening ends with a formal dinner and coffee or liqueurs in the Observation Car.

Day 3Kyle of Lochalsh → Tomatin → Boat of GartenBoat of Garten
A full Scottish breakfast is served as the train heads east to Carrbridge, followed by a single-cask tasting in the Observation Car. After a light lunch, visit Tomatin Distillery for a guided tour and a tasting of three Highland single malts. Rejoin the train at Boat of Garten for an informal dinner and music from local musicians.

Day 4Rothiemurchus → Tullibardine → DundeeDundee
After breakfast, head to Rothiemurchus Estate in the Cairngorms for wild swimming, archery or fly fishing. Lunch is served from Kingussie, then a private tour and tasting of three Highland single malts at Tullibardine Distillery. Rejoin the train at Perth for a formal dinner on the way to Dundee, with Scottish country dancing to close the journey.

Day 5Dundee → Edinburgh
The train leaves Dundee in the morning and crosses the Tay Bridge into Fife, with a full Scottish breakfast on the way back to Edinburgh.
