Day by day

Day 1Late afternoon: Sanctuary Lodge

Meet at Sanctuary Lodge, beside the gates of Machu Picchu, at about 16:00 for a cocktail in the hotel gardens, then take a private bus down to Aguas Calientes station and its VIP lounge.

Day 2Evening: Aguas Calientes to Rio Sagrado

Board at Aguas Calientes for the 17:50 departure and take in the Andes at dusk to live music. From about 19:00 a five-course dinner with South American wines is served, and there is time for a last cocktail in the Bar Car before arrival at the Rio Sagrado private station at about 20:36.

    What are the timings?

    Meet at Sanctuary Lodge at about 16:00. The train leaves Aguas Calientes at about 17:50 and reaches the Rio Sagrado private station at about 20:36; timings can change at short notice.

    Which meals are included?

    A five-course dinner with South American wines is served on board, with Peruvian cocktails in the Bar Car and a gathering at Sanctuary Lodge before departure. Let us know in advance about vegetarian or children's meals.

    Does the train ticket include entry to Machu Picchu?

    No. The train ticket does not guarantee entry to Machu Picchu, as entrance tickets are controlled by Peru's Ministry of Culture. Ask our team to check citadel ticket availability for your day when you enquire.

    When does it run, and what does it cost?

    Is the Observatory Car open on the way back?

    No. The Observatory Car is not available on journeys back to the Sacred Valley or Cusco, but music and cocktails continue in the Bar Car.

    How much luggage can I bring?

    Each ticket includes one piece of hand luggage, a bag or backpack of up to 5 kg (11 lb) and 157 cm in combined dimensions. It is tagged and stored for you at check-in.
