Day by day

Day 1Morning: Rio Sagrado to Aguas Calientes

Check in at the private station near Urubamba, where your luggage is tagged and stored, and board at about 09:40. Watch the Andes unfold from the Observatory, Bar and Dining Cars as live musicians play, then enjoy a light Peruvian meal with South American wines from around 11:00.

Day 2Afternoon: Machu Picchu and Sanctuary Lodge

Arrive at about 12:24 and take a bus up for a guided exploration of the citadel, then head to Sanctuary Lodge at the gates for a cocktail in the gardens.

Day 3Evening: Aguas Calientes to Rio Sagrado

Take the bus back down for check-in. Board at Aguas Calientes for the 17:50 departure and take in the Andes at dusk to live music. From about 19:00 a five-course dinner with South American wines is served, and there is time for a last cocktail in the Bar Car before arrival at Rio Sagrado at about 20:36.

    The train leaves the private Rio Sagrado station at about 09:40 and returns there at about 20:36. Timings are approximate and can change at short notice.

    Which meals are included?

    A brunch-style light Peruvian lunch with cocktails is served on the way up and a five-course dinner with South American wines on the way back, plus a gathering at Sanctuary Lodge. Let us know in advance about vegetarian or children's meals.

    Does the train ticket include entry to Machu Picchu?

    No. The train ticket does not guarantee entry to Machu Picchu, as entrance tickets are controlled by Peru's Ministry of Culture. Ask our team to check citadel ticket availability for your day when you enquire.

    How long do we have at Machu Picchu?

    The train arrives around 12:24 and the return leaves Aguas Calientes around 17:50, so you have the afternoon for the guided visit and Sanctuary Lodge. Remember that citadel entrance tickets must be secured separately.

    How much luggage can I bring?

    Each ticket includes one piece of hand luggage, a bag or backpack of up to 5 kg (11 lb) and 157 cm in combined dimensions. It is tagged and stored for you at check-in.
