Al Andalus

Al Andalus is a rolling Belle Époque palace: sleeping cars from the golden age of European rail travel, joined to four lounge cars built between 1928 and 1930. Over seven days it links Seville and Madrid, with breakfast on board each morning, guided visits by day and music, dancing and conversation in the saloon cars after dark.

Evenings are lively: live performances, parties in the pub car and dancing, and the journey closes with a farewell gala meal. A comfortable coach travels alongside the train for the daily excursions, and a multilingual guide accompanies you throughout.

Dining on board and ashore

Every breakfast is served on board. Lunches and dinners alternate between the train's restaurant cars, where the onboard chefs cook, and leading restaurants along the route, giving you a taste of each region you pass through.

Wine, water, soft drinks and coffee are included with meals, and entrance fees for the scheduled visits are part of the journey.

About the Al Andalus

What is the Al Andalus train like?

The Al Andalus is a rolling Belle Époque palace, with sleeping cars from the golden age of European rail travel joined to four restored lounge cars built between 1928 and 1930. Its 32 private compartments each have their own shower room, and all carriages are connected so you can stroll freely through the train. By day you join guided visits, and after dark the saloon cars fill with music, dancing and conversation.

Which journeys does the Al Andalus run, and how long are they?

The Al Andalus runs two journeys, Seville to Madrid and Madrid to Seville. Each lasts 7 days and 6 nights and links Andalusia, Extremadura and the royal heartland around Madrid, visiting Jerez, Cádiz, Córdoba, Mérida, Cáceres, Toledo and Aranjuez.

Where do the journeys start and end?

Seville to Madrid begins with a welcome in Seville, and the train heads straight south to Jerez; it ends with a farewell gala lunch in Madrid. Madrid to Seville opens with an introduction to Madrid and lunch, then you board at Aranjuez in the afternoon; it ends in Seville after a last breakfast on board.

What cabin types are available on the Al Andalus?

There are two categories. The 20 Suite Deluxe compartments (9.9 m² / 107 sq ft) have a 1.50 m double bed that becomes a sofa by day, a private shower room, and a minibar with soft drinks included plus an in-room safe. The 12 Gran Clase compartments (8 m² / 86 sq ft) have two single lower beds that convert to armchairs, original wood panelling, a private shower room, a minibar, a safe and individual climate control.

What is dining like on the Al Andalus?

Every breakfast is served on board. Lunches and dinners alternate between the train's restaurant cars, where the onboard chefs cook, and leading restaurants along the route, so you taste each region you pass through. Wine, water, soft drinks and coffee are included with meals.

How are the nights spent on the Al Andalus?

You sleep in your own compartment on board every night, with overnight stops in places such as Jerez, Córdoba, Mérida, Torrijos, Cáceres and Aranjuez depending on your direction. Evenings are lively, with live music in the piano car, parties in the pub car and dancing, and the bar opens early and stays open late.

Who is the Al Andalus best suited to?

It suits travellers who love history, architecture and regional food and wine, and who enjoy a sociable atmosphere in the evenings. A comfortable coach travels alongside the train for daily excursions and a multilingual guide accompanies you throughout, so the sightseeing is taken care of while you return each night to a restored vintage train.

Is there Wi-Fi on board?

Yes. Wi-Fi is available on board through a mobile connection. Across the open country of Andalusia and central Spain it is generally more stable than on the northern trains, though it can still dip in places along the route.

How do I choose between the two Al Andalus journeys?

Both cover the same regions over six nights, so the choice mostly comes down to direction and emphasis. Seville to Madrid gives you a full day in Jerez and finishes with a farewell gala lunch in Madrid, while Madrid to Seville starts with the Royal Palace of Aranjuez and gives you a full day in Córdoba before ending in Seville. Live dates and fares are shown on each journey page, and our reservations team can help on (866) 484-7882.
