Overview
The La Dolce Vita Orient Express leaves Rome in the afternoon and runs south overnight to Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage city of cave dwellings. On the third morning, a historic train from Sulmona climbs to the mountain village of Pescocostanzo before the return to Rome.

Day 1RomeOn board
A private transfer takes you to the lounge at Rome Ostiense before an afternoon departure. Dinner by chef Heinz Beck celebrates seasonal Italian ingredients. Live music in the Bar Car carries you into the first night.

Day 2MateraOn board
After breakfast, you arrive in Matera, famed for its cave dwellings and limestone lanes. Local assistants are on hand as you explore freely or join optional experiences such as a guided visit to the Sassi or lunch in a cave restaurant. In the afternoon an Italian aperitivo is served on board, followed by dinner and live music as the train heads for Sulmona.

Day 3Sulmona → Pescocostanzo → Rome
The train arrives at Sulmona, where local guides take you aboard a historic train through the mountains to Pescocostanzo. Enjoy free time among its cobbled streets and baroque architecture. In the afternoon you rejoin the train for the return to Rome Ostiense.
