After two days in Istanbul the train continues to Ephesus, Hierapolis, Ankara and finally three days in Cappadocia.
The route the original Orient Express made famous, travelled at a pace that lets you see it properly. From Paris the train runs east to Champagne for a tasting in the cellars, then to Vienna and its imperial architecture. Descend into the caves at Postojna in Slovenia, spend a day in Belgrade above the meeting of the Danube and the Sava, and another in Sofia beneath the domes of Alexander Nevsky, before arriving in Istanbul.
The classic Orient Express route in reverse, beginning where the old line ended. Start with two days in Istanbul among the mosques, palaces and markets of the old city, then head north and west by private train to Sofia, to Belgrade on the Danube, and to the caves at Postojna. Continue to Vienna, then to Champagne for a tasting in the cellars, before arriving in Paris.
